Toi-Gye

is the pen name of the noted scholar Yi Hwang (16th century A.D.), an authority on neo-Confucianism. The 37 movements of the pattern refer to his birthplace on 37o latitude, the diagram represents scholar.

  1. ¼ turn left, L-stance, left outer middle block
  2. Pivot to walking stance, right spear finger to groin (right palm up, left over right bicep)
  3. ¼ turn right, left foot to right, left down & right up block, performed in slow motion
  4. ¼ turn right, L-stance, right outer middle block
  5. Pivot to walking stance, left spear finger to groin (left palm up, right hand over left bicep)
